"People are weird. When we find someone with weirdness that is compatible with ours, we team up and call it love."
Dr. Seuss
First a bit about Joe and I. It all began 40 plus years ago in June of 1977, when we met at a high school graduation party in New Jersey. We hit it off right away as I could tell that Joe was a kind soul and he made me laugh. Our courtship was swift and exciting and in just over a year, we were wed. We were married when we were both 19 years young and had a typical large wedding as Jersey folks do. Two hundred people to be exact with a live band, and the firehouse ladies preparing a smorgasbord of delightful Italian dishes.
Joe, Heather, and Rev. Bueshel (alias Abe Lincoln) |
Cross Keys United Methodist Church |
Our preacher, Reverend Bueshel was a wonderful man who was an Abraham Lincoln look alike. How shocked our guests were when he came in from the back of the quaint country church, where a cemetery was located to marry us. There was quite the gasp in the church on that most special day.
Our children - Jason, Jeannine, Jessica, and Joshua |
Three weeks later, after a beautiful honeymoon in Bermuda, and a quick jaunt to Niagara Falls for a long weekend, Joe left for basic training in the Army. That was a very hard day to get through. It all worked out splendidly and while Joe served in the US Army, we were blessed with three wonderful children, two boys and a girl. During our time in the service, we were stationed at many wonderful places like Virginia Beach, Louisville, Kentucky, West Point, New York, Woodbridge, Virginia , Goppingen, Germany, and Augusta, Georgia, We met so many wonderful people and saw incredible sights while Joe served. The military treated us very well and we made it through till he retired.
Joni, Pyke, Kaley, Zoe, Jeannine, Darren, Joe, H eather, and Jason |
We moved to Augusta, Georgia in 1997 and call this home now. We love it here. We love our family and all the great times we have together. Jessica came to live with us when she was in high school and we consider her one of our own. Jason, our eldest son got married on the Appalachian Trail with his love, Joni and they have blessed us with two grandchildren, Pyke and Zoe. Our daughter, Jeannine is married to a wonderful man named Darren and they are raising Kaley, our eldest grandchild and they adopted three little girls this past year, Azzy, Bella, and Mary. Along with raising them she has is constantly taking in foster children. We love being Grandmom and Pop Pop to them all.
Along with the family time, we love to travel. The travel bug hit us early and we now we continue the legacy by traveling to different destinations on our Fridays off. We wanted to share our adventures with others so they can enjoy traveling through us and experiencing the new adventures we enjoy on every trip. Most of all, we hope you get motivated to get out and see our beautiful country. That can be by seeing a small towns beauty of a by gone era, historical areas, beautiful towns, festivals, and seeing all nature has to offer. Join us. Relax, sit back and have a cup of tea. Read, imagine, dream, and then get out and see these places and more. We live in an amazingly gorgeous country. Go see things that are local and easy to reach and then continue to spread your wings to see more and more. Once you start, you will never stop. Enjoy. Heather.
