Fausett Farms Sunflowers, Dawsonville, Georgia

A sunflower field is like a sky with a thousand suns.”

Corina Abdulahm-Negura

Once again it was time to take our yearly trip to the mountains and this year decided to bring our granddaughters, Azzy, Bella, and Mary to see Burts Pumpkin Farm, Amicalola Falls, and Fausetts beautiful Sunflower Farm. Joe and I had come here last year, and we were impressed by how beautiful Fausett Sunflowers were so we wanted our grands to be able to see it this year.

Our three hour drive, with three very anxious and excited little girls felt very long for the girls who wanted out of the car to run. They asked the usual questions, “Are we there yet?” We were all happy when we started seeing the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains in the distance and soon after arrived in rural Dawsonville, Georgia. We pulled into Fausett Farms Sunflowers and paid the $5 a person fee to walk the land and take some great pictures. Under 5 years old are free and if you are a professional photographer it will cost you $35. You can even bring your horse if you like for miles of trails for $10 a horse.

After parking, Joe walked up to the field ahead of me with the girls. They took off as soon as they reached the first row and disappeared in the tall sunflowers. By the time I caught up with them, the girls were simply gone. We couldn’t see them but we could hear them in the distance. They were running down the rows of the sunflowers as fast as they could. They found a little bit of Heaven in this field. As we walked around viewing the beautiful flowers, the girls ran off some of their extra energy.

We walked around the field and took many pictures of this beautiful sun kissed field. We loved how they had tractors strategically placed around the farm for the girls to pose on. We walked all around the blooming fields and saw the other fields off in the distance, that would be soon blooming that were located closer to the mountains. When we got to the back of the field, there were large tires set up for the girls to play. The girls enjoyed playing there and getting up on another tractor set up.

This farm has been family owned since 1858 and was a poultry farm for 60 years. They stopped raising chickens in 2011. Now this amazing property with the mountains in the background offer 900,000 sunflowers on 30 plus gorgeous acres. This year the planted different fields to bloom at different times during the fall which will extended their season greatly.
