“Wine makes every meal an occasion, every table more elegant, every day more civilized.”
Andre Simon
Have
you been wanting to go to a vineyard and do some wine tasting but do
not have the time to drive all the way to the mountains to do so?
Well now you do not have to travel that far. Today we stopped at
this picturesque vineyard and winery in the small town of Johnston,
South Carolina. We were thrilled there was now a winery that was
close to Augusta, Georgia. It is located on a beautiful and
peaceful hundred acre farm full of old grape vines and fruit
orchards.
A
sign marks the entrance stating, Three Star Vineyard and Orchard that
greeted us and let us know we were at the right place. We drove down
the lane between the abundant rows of well established grapevines and
pulled up in front of “The Store” which opened in August 2019.
This charming store is a great place to shop for gifts with many unique items.
They sell their wine, grapes and fruits such as plums, peaches and Asian Pears when in season, jams, salsas,
honey, and many fun gift selections. We found the ladies who were
working the store to be very friendly and helpful.
They
opened the tasting room about six months ago. We went inside and
decided to do a tasting. The tasting room is very nice and quite
large. There are tables scattered around as well as seats up at the
bar. They also have tables outside on a covered porch that would be a
great place to relax with a glass of wine on a nice day and view the vineyard.
When
we walked in they asked if we wanted to do a tasting or what they
could get for us. I tasted a few wines and then ordered a peach
slushie that was amazing. Joe got a glass of red wine. They sell
Sauvignon Blanc, sweet red muscadine wine, and many other varieties
from their winery and other South Carolina wineries. They also sell
bottled or canned beer. They have a variety of flavored slushies for $5 a glass like plum, hazy lemon, mocha mudslide, apple pie, and
many other choices depending on the day.
We
noticed they were setting up for an event and found they were going
to have a rehearsal party there that night. They were hustling to
get everything ready and perfect and were doing a great job. As
busy as they were, we got to meet Anne Hutchins, one of the owners
who was lovely. She states her and her husband, Kenny own the farm
which has been in the Hutchins family for years. She was very kind
and welcomed us. She told us this vineyard has been growing grapes
for over 28 years.
We
sat and enjoyed our drink and the company of the lovely ladies that
were working there that day. Before we left we checked out the
store. Anne came into the shop and showed us the old grape vine
hanging on the wall that was over 45 years old and huge. She let us
know the grapes are all handpicked and maintained. She invited us
to follow them on Facebook to see all the events they have planned
here during the year. She states they have events nearly every
Saturday with live music and on most Fridays they have food trucks
that come.
This
is a great place to check out and enjoy. We enjoyed ourselves and
loved the southern hospitality that we were shown. They are located
at 172 Holmes Pond Road, Johnston, South Carolina and we highly
recommend you to go and check them out. We will be back again.
Cheers.
Till next time. Bye for now.
