“Good restaurant design is about achieving equilibrium between the food, service, and design – in effect, telling a complete story.”
David Rockwell
On
our day of exploring Puerto Rico, we decided to drive the north side
of the island and head west towards Survival Beach. By the time we
got off our cruise ship and went through the process of renting a car
it was after 10 am before we got on the road. We headed out on PR 22
and drove west.
Puerto
Rico is one beautiful island with so much to do and see and is well
worth taking your time driving around this island and exploring all
the fantastic sites. I only wish we had more than just an extra day.
We knew we wanted to stop at a good restaurant for lunch during our
travels. Salitre Meson Costero Restaurant came highly recommended.
We were anxious to give it a try. This is a great place to go if you
are looking for good food, a leisurely lunch with a great view, and
are not in a rush. That fit our style for the day perfectly.
We
got off the main highway and continued on Ocean Road PR 681. We
drove down the coastal road and enjoyed observing how people lived in
this area. We noticed some very nice homes and saw some homes that
you could hardly imagine someone living in. This restaurant is only
a fifty minute drive from San Juan and was a gorgeous drive. We
stopped at some of the beach front parks to see the amazing scenery.
We
found the restaurant and arrived before it even opened. We parked
and noticed that over the front door was a flybridge from a boat.
The tan cement building also had an anchor and two round life ring
buoys decorating the front of the building. Besides that the building
was fairly plain. At 11:30 they opened the doors and welcomed us in.
They
asked if we would like a table inside in the air conditioning or out
on the back terrace. We chose the back terrace since it was a lovely
day and not too hot. We walked out to the terrace and saw the
breathtaking view. The ocean was just steps below us. We found a
table and sat down. The views were spectacular. The ocean was a
beautiful blue glistening in the sunshine and off in the distance we
could see the stunning Arecibo Lighthouse.
A waitress came out and gave us our menus but she didn’t understand
English and we didn’t know enough Spanish to get by. A moment
later, another waitress came out who spoke English and took out drink
order. What a great place to sit and relax enjoying the sound of the
waves crashing on the shoreline. Our drinks came out and our
waitress took our order.
The
menu was fantastic and it was hard choose which meal was best. This
restaurant specializes in seafood plus some lovely prime beef meals
and Tapas. They also boast of having a large selection of wines.
We ordered our food and enjoyed our time watching the waves, birds,
and people. What a lovely spot.
If
you are in a rush, this is not your place. It is very laid back.
But if you want to have a great meal and have time, this is a great
place. The service was very good and we were treated as if we were
the only ones there. The main courses start at $14 and go up from
there. This would be a great place to come for dinner and watch the
sunset.
We
were happy we stopped here and enjoyed our meal and time there. We
highly recommend it and only wished we had more time to just sit and
enjoy the view. But we had to make haste and go to see some more
gorgeous sites. They are closed Mondays and Tuesdays and open
Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from 11:30 am to 8 pm. Friday and
Saturday their hours are from 11:30 pm to 9 pm.
Till
next time. Bye for now.
