“When witches go riding, and black cats are seen. The moon laughs and whispers, ‘tis near Halloween,”
A Witch’s Journal
Is
your neighborhood looking to do something fun for Halloween? Well,
it may be too late for this year but it is time to start planning for
next years events. My husband and I were invited to a porch crawl in
Olde Town, Augusta and hung out with all the ghost and goblins as we
traipsed from house to house celebrating and had a blast. We are blessed being a
part of this group and are lucky to be able to call them all friends.
There were close to 50 people who attended the porch crawl.

This
year there were four houses on the crawl and all were within a two
block radius so it was easy walking. Many people dressed up in
disguise but costumes were optional. Each home had a forty minute
window where people could come and check out how you decorated your
home and enjoy the fruits of their labor. Each home put out snacks
and each home had a specialty drink.

We
converged on Carmen’s home first. Her home was nicely decorated and
so was she. Her house is always a fun place to visit as she has the
most unique and beautiful art throughout her home. Walking up to her
home, we were greeted by a skeleton walking his three skeleton dogs.
When I got up on the porch, I noticed the two ghouls pressed up
against her front window peering in wishing to be participants of the
gathering. There were people inside and outside chatting it up. Her
specialty drink was put in medical blood bags. How bloody creative.

She
had various foods placed on the table with a centerpiece of a bare white
tree adorned with skeleton faces. She had another table with ghoulish
desserts including bloody fingers cookies that were delicious
shortbread. As we left to go to the next house, there were gift
bags for everyone to take that had a chocolate covered apple and glow
sticks. How special.

Our
next stop was at Deborah and Barry’s home. She had a flying black
apparition hanging from her front porch and a decorated table set out
with a specialty drink and glasses ready for all to partake. She had a lovely spread with roasted hot
dogs with all the fixings, Tator Tots, sweet snack packs, delicious pumpkin
muffins, chips and more. The food was amazing and the drink superb.
The centerpiece was an skeleton with glowing eyes wearing a pumpkin
head dress. Barry was dressed up in his fancy Halloween suit,
Deborah was in a witches costume, and their co host, Amy was dressed
up as a Cereal killer. Loved it.

Our
next stop was Birkie and Carol’s home. They has their lovely side
porch decked out with Halloween decorations. Entering their porch
was a lit candelabra with sweet treats to munch on. Halloween
pillows graced their bench. Birkie had savaged an old mantel from
his office and that was perfectly
set up and decorated with cobwebs and spiders which was the centerpiece of one wall of the
porch. Bob, the butler for the night, greeted everyone with a
plate. Her fancy specialty drink was displayed on the table adorned with
floating eyeballs. She had delicious chicken wings, tasty dips, desserts with
grave markers cookies on them and ghost cupcakes. These were all
artistically set up on s spider web tablecloth.

Then
to our last stop, Beth and Frances. We were guided to their back
yard where they had a roaring fire going in their large fire pit.
There was a welcoming pumpkin bucket on the porch with with dry ice
creating a dense white fog. They had a projector set up with a
classic silent movie and Halloween music playing in the background.
Skeleton man was resting under the shade of a tree enjoying his night
watching the festivities. She had a lovely spread with dips, fancy
pastries with decorated eyes staring back at you, crock pot meatballs, and fancy cookies. Her
beautiful centerpiece was decorated with skulls and candelabras.
A
good time was had by all and any reason is a good reason to get
together with friends. This event had not happened for a couple
years so we were thrilled it is happening again. Thank you to all who
made this event so special. Your hard work did not go unnoticed.
Could this work in your neighborhood? Think about it. It could be
fun. Happy Halloween.
Till
next time. Bye for now.
