The Christmas Lights at Evans Town Center, Evans, Georgia

May the beautiful lights of every Christmas season remind us of Him who is the source of all light.”
David A Bednar

Each year, Evans Town Center gets all dressed up with beautiful Christmas decorations and thousands of twinkling lights. We decided to go on Christmas Eve Eve, December 23rd to see how it looked since that was the last night we would have had time to go, and with oncoming rain, it was not crowded. Perfect. We met Jeannine, Darren, and all the children at the park. They did an excellent job with decorating up the park and it really was a joy to see.

There were lights of many characters like nutcrackers snowmen, carolers, trains, Santa, and more. The children loved seeing all the figures twinkling and wanted to get their pictures taken near them. The light tunnel was amazing looking but was too wet from all the rain to allow the children to go through the tunnel.

There was one section that had lit up “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. We walked around the circle and sang the song as we went through the display of the days. It was great fun and even better when a family came behind us and joined us, or should I say helped us sing the song. We didn’t do so good with the singing but the kids loved it, chiming in adding their voices.

They had put up an outside ice skating ring that was absolutely beautiful. There was quite a crowd that night ice skating to the Christmas music. It was wonderful seeing the families out skating with their children. It was pretty amazing for Augusta, Georgia to have a real ice skating ring since we hardly ever get a hard freeze. There was also an outside fire pit so you could roast marshmallows and there was a snack bar set up so the kids and adults could get a snack or a drink.

We walked by the Lady A stage to see the computerized Christmas tree. The stage was named after the group “Lady Antebellum” since the two male singers, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood went to Lakeside High School, a local school. During the nicer weather, there are outside concerts here and it is a great venue. Huge crowds come here for these events. The Christmas tree was beautiful and I’m sure, Columbia County spent a good amount for this system. The lights were synchronized to the Christmas music and it was fun watching all the different patterns.

By the time we got to the Christmas tree, it started raining pretty good so we decided to call it quits. The park will stay open for all to see the lights and go ice skating till New Years. It is a great way to spend an evening and your children will be thrilled. If you get a chance to go, please do. It is a lot of fun. The ice skating ring will be open till January 6th. Bye for now.

Christmas Lights
Marie Irish

Bright Christmas stars shine on high,
Golden stars in the wint’ry sky;
Christmas candles in windows bright
Sends greeting into the night;

While in our hearts the Christmas flame,
Glows with a love like his who came,
The infant Christ of lowly birth,
To bring good will and peace to earth.

Outer Banks Christmas House, Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina

Christmas lights instantly make me feel like eight years old again.”

Christmas time is alive in the Outer Banks. The Christmas House is a bright spot on the Outer Banks dark roads. Driving down Ocean Acres Drive in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina we were happy seeing a few beautifully decorated home driving towards the Christmas House but then we crested the hill and woo hoo - the piece de resistance – the grand masterpiece of all masterpieces.

Driving up to the house, we saw where many cars were stopped on the side of the road. So instead of just driving by, we parked and walked to the house. We were lucky to get a parking spot as it was quite busy with people walking down the street and cars passing by. We were so glad we did as there were people milling around the whole property. This is not just a drive by site to see.

From the street, the house looked spectacular with all the lights. The Christmas music was cheerily playing in the background and you could hear people and children squealing with delight at all the beautiful Christmas sights. There was so much to take in. At a glance, there was beautiful lights, but walking around, there were so many displays that were just remarkable. They put so much time and effort making every detail perfect.

Walking around, there were many nativity scenes, Christmas blow ups, lit up reindeer, snowman, Christmas balls, Gingerbread, candy canes, and on and on. They have inside displays as well with immaculate train sets that were meticulously set up and toy displays.

This Christmas House is run by the Poulos Family who have made a Christmas House light show for forty years. This tradition was started by Jim Poulos and his late wife, Ann who started this tradition in Virginia Beach and when they moved to the Outer Banks they carried on the tradition.. This was his first Christmas without her but her wishes were to carry on their tradition which makes not just the people who live on the Outer Banks very happy but all the people who come to see their display. Everyone loves this family and their tradition, but non more than the people living in the Outer Banks. We were blessed to meet his daughter, Dianna Mueller and her husband, Dennis who are helping her father with this show now. They are sweet and wonderful people that live with the spirit of Christmas in their heart. She said they start putting up the decorations twelve weeks in advance. They spend over $3,500 in energy bills every month and have it on display from November 28th through December 31st. They have been featured on the Today Show and on HGTV.

Walking around brought the kid out in everyone. The whole visit, I couldn’t help but to grin. We enjoyed watching the excitement of the children even after the holidays. What a special Christmas tradition the Poulos family share with everyone. Thank you so much for your effort. Your family brings so much joy to many people. I hope you enjoy the pictures of their masterpiece and plan on visiting it. This is worth your time. Bye for now.

Christmas is the Season of light.”
