The Christmas Lights at Evans Town Center, Evans, Georgia

May the beautiful lights of every Christmas season remind us of Him who is the source of all light.”
David A Bednar

Each year, Evans Town Center gets all dressed up with beautiful Christmas decorations and thousands of twinkling lights. We decided to go on Christmas Eve Eve, December 23rd to see how it looked since that was the last night we would have had time to go, and with oncoming rain, it was not crowded. Perfect. We met Jeannine, Darren, and all the children at the park. They did an excellent job with decorating up the park and it really was a joy to see.

There were lights of many characters like nutcrackers snowmen, carolers, trains, Santa, and more. The children loved seeing all the figures twinkling and wanted to get their pictures taken near them. The light tunnel was amazing looking but was too wet from all the rain to allow the children to go through the tunnel.

There was one section that had lit up “The Twelve Days of Christmas”. We walked around the circle and sang the song as we went through the display of the days. It was great fun and even better when a family came behind us and joined us, or should I say helped us sing the song. We didn’t do so good with the singing but the kids loved it, chiming in adding their voices.

They had put up an outside ice skating ring that was absolutely beautiful. There was quite a crowd that night ice skating to the Christmas music. It was wonderful seeing the families out skating with their children. It was pretty amazing for Augusta, Georgia to have a real ice skating ring since we hardly ever get a hard freeze. There was also an outside fire pit so you could roast marshmallows and there was a snack bar set up so the kids and adults could get a snack or a drink.

We walked by the Lady A stage to see the computerized Christmas tree. The stage was named after the group “Lady Antebellum” since the two male singers, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood went to Lakeside High School, a local school. During the nicer weather, there are outside concerts here and it is a great venue. Huge crowds come here for these events. The Christmas tree was beautiful and I’m sure, Columbia County spent a good amount for this system. The lights were synchronized to the Christmas music and it was fun watching all the different patterns.

By the time we got to the Christmas tree, it started raining pretty good so we decided to call it quits. The park will stay open for all to see the lights and go ice skating till New Years. It is a great way to spend an evening and your children will be thrilled. If you get a chance to go, please do. It is a lot of fun. The ice skating ring will be open till January 6th. Bye for now.

Christmas Lights
Marie Irish

Bright Christmas stars shine on high,
Golden stars in the wint’ry sky;
Christmas candles in windows bright
Sends greeting into the night;

While in our hearts the Christmas flame,
Glows with a love like his who came,
The infant Christ of lowly birth,
To bring good will and peace to earth.
