“Christmas is doing a little something extra fro someone.”
Yesterday,
December 15th was a great fall day for the annual
Christmas Crawl in Olde Town, Augusta. The weather was perfect for
our trek from house to house. This year we had a line up of eight
houses and ending at the Foxes Lair. If you are unfamiliar with
what the Christmas Crawl is let me give a little information about
what this event is all about. It was the brain storm of our
friends from Olde Town who came up with a wonderful way to celebrate
the season with our friends. The idea is you go to different hosts
houses where they each serve some kind of light food and a specialty
drink. We had thirty-five minutes at each home to see their homes,
decorations, and enjoy a specialty drink and snack before going to
the next one.
The
day began at Brian's home who is the organizer of the Christmas
Crawl and was our first stop. He served a Texas Style corn chowder
with chips, along with his cranberry salad, both amazing dishes.
There was also Ghirardelli Chocolates to top off the meal. He made a
cranberry specialty drink and had beer. It was a wonderful stop
where all our friends joined up to do the crawl many dressed up in
Christmas gear. We had between 40 and 50 people on this crawl
including some newbies. He has a lovely house and very unique and
beautiful Christmas tree. The ornaments are amazing. We got our
first group picture there which was perfect with Brian’s twin
brother, David dressed up as an elf. Then Tim, the time keeper,
rang the bell and we knew to head to the next house.
Our
next stop was an easy walk, right next door. Chuck's home
had the theme “The Grinch who Stole Christmas.” His house was
all decked out for Christmas and he served a creative drink called
Crumpet Mountain Dew which was delicious. Chuck and Sandy served
Chili, Grinch Beans (asparagus wrapped in bacon). Everything is
better with bacon don’t you think? They also has heart shaped
candies. The cartoon, “The Grinch who stole Christmas” was
playing on the television. It was done perfectly. Time to move on
to the next house. Tim rang the bell.
From
there, we took a short cut between two homes to get to Becky’s home, stop 3. Her house was also picture perfect and
set up beautifully for Christmas. I loved all her nutcrackers that
were keeping guard of us as we got our food. She had a lovely table
set with cheeses, meats, and crackers, veggie platter, fruit salad,
dips and chips, and cookies. She served wine and beer. Her house
was so cute and we had a great time. Ring a ding, ding. Time to go.
Our
group then walked around the corner to Nancy's home which is
a lovely two story home with lots of character which she has made
even more gorgeous. One of her Christmas trees was elegantly
placed in her hallway next her to grand staircase and greeted us as
we walked into her home. It was huge and stunning. She had another
tree in her living room. She served all kinds of delicious pastries
and cookies, chocolate peppermint bark, and meat and cheese tray
with crackers. She had jello shots and a cranberry spiked punch to
drink at her home. She has a beautiful home that is just wonderful
and has added creative touches throughout. Ding, Ding went the
bell. It’s time.
Next
we walked about a block away to Carmen and Eric's home, stop
5, which is a lovely home and probably the most unique of all the
stops. Their home has art throughout that Nancy states she tries to
buy a local piece of artwork everywhere she visits. Her house was
just fun. I loved their decorations and home. She served wonderful
ham sandwiches, crackers, carrots, dips, and sweet breads. She
serve wine and a Christmas punch that was delicious. As we were
leaving, she had gift bags for each of us to take. She had hand
painted us each an ornament to hang on our tree and I have placed
mine on our tree proudly representing the Christmas Crawl 2019.
Thank you so much for the gift. What a great memento. I hear bells.
Time to move on.
Stop
6 was Ed and Deb's home. They have a lovely two story
home with balcony’s on the front. They had some finger
sandwiches, vegetables, and cheese and crackers and dips. They
served a lovely Eggnog with Pecan whiskey which was lovely. They
decorated up the downstairs with Christmas flair and we enjoyed our
visit there, mostly sitting on the front porch. We got our second
group picture there. What a fine looking group. Bells are a
ringing. Time to move on.
From
there we only had to walk a couple houses down to get to Birkie and
Carol’s home. Carol had the house all decorated to the tee’s
and it couldn’t have been more lovely or homey. They had a
fire-pit set up in the yard as well as their patio fireplace burning
hot. It was lovely sitting outside getting toasty. The evening air
was was chilly but with the fire going it felt great. They served
goat cheese stuffed dates wrapped in prosciutto, Red Velvet banana
nut bread and cannoli dip with broken waffle cones for dipping.
Everything was delicious. Their specialty drink was fireball
martini’s and they were set up so cute. Ring a ding, ding. It’s
time.
House
number 8 was Deborah and Barry’s home. I’ve also loved
this home and they have made this a home very special and unique. I
just love the artistic details they have added to this home. They
had a beautiful tree up and had their house decorated up for the
holidays. She served gingerbread cookies with our initials on it.
She also served Lemon Drops (a lovely lemony drink) as well has Hot
Toddies. Bell was a ringing. Time to go to the last Host stop.
Our
final stop for the day was at the Foxes Lair and hosted by Melinda. She did a lovely job decorating and the food was wonderful.
Her theme was “The Nightmare before Christmas.” She had a
lovely spread of fresh warm bread, spicy sausage, snake wraps made
with spinach wraps with a cream cheese mix, cheese and crackers,
bacon, chocolate coated popcorn, and a lovely cake. She had music
to match her theme. They offered a hot wine or wine of your choice.
This is a spot that is dear to our hearts. We have so many
memories here.
The
day was a fun day for all. We cherish our friendships and just
enjoyed the fellowship we all share. You couldn’t ask for a
nicer group of friends. Thank you so much for all the hosts who
went out of their way to make this day special. A special thank you
to Brian who came up with this idea, I’m not sure how many years
ago, but it was a great one. You have brought the old fashioned
Christmas spirit back and we are thrilled to be a part of this group.
Thanks for including us. From our home to yours, we hope you have
a Merry Christmas.

Is
not a simple one
For I

Days
filled with warmth and sun.
I

Throughout
the coming year
Lots
of laughter and happiness
To

And
when totaled by the lot
May
you find all you’ve been given
To be
more than what you sought.
May
your journeys be short, your burdens light
May
your spirit never grow old
May
all your clouds have silver linings
And
your rainbows pots of gold.
I
wish this all and so much more
May
all your dreams come true
May
you have a Merry Christmas friend
And
happy New Year, too...
