Fisherman’s Crab Deck, Grasonville, Maryland

It’s summertime: the livin’ is easy, the beer is old, and seafood restaurants are throwing open their doors. There’s not better way to consume the fruits of the ocean, than with a paper plate on your lap, the wind in your hair, and creaky floorboards beneath your feet. What the following fresh seafood joints lack in ritz they more than make up for in character, legend, and, of course, lobsters, shrimp, crabs, and various other delicious lower life forms. Bring a bib and a mallet. Things are going to get messy.”
Quote from the Fisherman's Crab Deck website.

On our way home from our New York trip, we headed towards the coast to avoid traffic since I-81 was such a mess which really didn’t work out so well for us. We hit lots of traffic coming home from the beach but at least it was a pretty drive. Lunch time was coming and we wanted to stop for a good seafood meal, We decided to stop on Kent Narrows in the town of Grasonville, Maryland at the Fisherman’s Crab Deck Restaurant. You can’t miss it as it is painted a bright aqua blue color on Main Street near the 301 bridge that goes over Prospect Bay. This restaurant was listed as one of the best seafood shacks in America serving the best fresh seafood.

We got here about the time it opened so we got right in. This is a casual open air restaurant/bar right up against a marina that opened in 1991 and is owned and operated by the Schulz family. It sits right next to the family’s other restaurant, the Fisherman’s Inn which dates back to 1930 and also their fish market. We loved that it is a family run restaurant. We got a table outside on the deck right up against the water where we could watch the boats come and go. There were so gorgeous boats out there but it seemed most were for hire for deep sea fishing trips. This casual restaurant had picnic tables set up against the water with brightly colored umbrellas to keep the sun off you. Today was still early so it was not hot yet with a nice breeze coming off the water.

My man, Joe.

Since we didn’t have much time for dining today, we did not order the crabs but my, did they look great. When you order crabs, they come to your table, tape down a brown paper on the top of the tablecloth so when the bring the crabs out on a platter – they just dump the luscious delights on top of the table. They were all sprinkled with Old Bay and they were a really nice size. They also bring out a wooden hammer for breaking the crabs as well as picks and nutcrackers. I heard people talking of how delightful they were and wished we had time to enjoy some. We will come back another time and do just crabs.

Today, I ordered their fried shrimp platter which was delicious with too much food for me to handle. Joe ordered a seafood cakes that were like crab cakes but also had lobster in them. The flavor was incredible. They were excellent.

They have a bar area that is in the restaurant but is still in the open air and an area for bands to play that have lots of long tables to sit, eat, and watch the show. They do not have air conditioning but it was very pleasant the day we went. The restaurant was clean and the staff were welcoming and the service was stellar.

They also have a fish market but we didn’t have a cooler so we did not stop there. Next time. This was a great stop for us and we did so appreciate the view and the break from our travels. We would recommend this place. We will be back. Check them out at https://crabdeck.com.

Pull up a chair. Take a taste. Come join us. Life is so endlessly delicious.”
