Randolph’s on the River – Port Royal, Virginia

Pull up a chair. Take a taste. Come join us. Life is so endlessly delicious.”
Ruth Reichl

Today was our first day of our vacation and we are on the road heading north. We are driving from Augusta, Georgia to Paulsboro, New Jersey to see Joe’s mom before we head out on our cruise tomorrow out of Bayonne, New Jersey. We headed up I-95 North till just north of Richmond, Virginia where we decided to go the scenic route and avoid all the DC madness. We headed up 301 towards the 301 bridge and Annapolis to avoid the heavy traffic on I-95. One of the reasons we went this way was to eat at this restaurant.

Randolph’s on the River is a great little restaurant overlooking the Rappahannock River and was opened in 2018. I believe there was a restaurant here before then but that is when Randolph’s came into being. It doesn’t look fancy from the outside but it is easy to spot since it is a bright blue colored building. We pulled into the parking lot along with a few other cars and went inside. They had a decent lunch crowd there. They greeted us and sat us at a table next to the window with a great view of the river and the bridge.

The menu had a great selection of seafood and other food prepared by Chef Brian Randolph who uses the local farmers and fisherman in the area making the freshest dishes possible. I saw the burger meal come out for another customer and it looked huge and amazing, but I was wanting seafood today. I ordered shrimp and Joe ordered a crab and scallop meal. The meals came out quickly and both were excellent and full of flavor. We have never ordered anything that was anything but delightful here. Their motto is “Seafood with an Attitude.”

The interior of the restaurant is decorated in a nautical fun theme and is very clean. The bar has two circle windows behind it to make it resemble a ship. On a not so hot day it would be nice to sit out on their deck overlooking the river, but today was a scorcher so it felt good to be inside.

After our nice lunch break it was time to get back on the road. This was a great stop. If you are looking for some great seafood with a nice view, this is the place you need to go to. We will be coming back on our next trip north. We give this place a big thumbs up.

The hours are Monday – Thursday 11- 8, Friday and Saturday 11- 9, and Sunday 11-7. Check them out at: https://www.randolphsontheriver.com.
