Christmas Crawl, Old Town, Augusta, Georgia 2018

I cannot even imagine where I would be today were it not for that handful of friends who have given me a heart full of joy. Let’s face it, friends make life a lot more fun.”
Charles R. Swindoll

What a beautiful day we had today to do the annual Christmas Crawl in Olde Town, Augusta, Georgia. Today started out very nice and sunny, where it was comfortable without a coat but did get chiller in the later part of the day. Let me tell you a little about this event. A couple of our close friends from downtown invite a group of over forty people to Olde Town to go from house to house to share a specialty drink, and a snack of some sort. We have forty five minutes at each house and today there were six homes involved. When the time is up, we just walk to the next house. It is great fun to get our group of close friends together and see their decorations and enjoy the day together.

House number one today was Brian's house and he and his twin brother, David made a killer Texas chicken chili with chips and with a cranberry salad on the side. The chili was scrumptious and so was the salad. Their specialty drink was a Poinsettia which was a beautiful festive drink and quite tasty. The drink had Champagne, orange liqueur and cranberry juice. It is a perfect drink for the holidays. Brains house was very festive and I so enjoyed reading through his book on display, “Texas Night before Christmas” by James Rice. And what can I say about his Christmas tree except, I love it. This was a great first stop.

The second home on the crawl was Chuck’s home and the food was wonderfully prepared by Sandy with the theme of “The Grinch who stole Christmas” He had Whoville Chili which was a very tasty beef chili, along with bacon wrapped green beans (Grinch beans), Garlic in your soul (garlic bread), and a “Grinch” lemon lime cake. His specialty drink was Mt Crumpet Sangria. Everything was lovely and the show “The Grinch who stole Christmas” was on in the background. Great job.

The third stop today was at The Foxes Liar and was hosted by Melinda. The theme here was “A Christmas Story.” She had the movie playing in the background. There were cartons of fried rice in boxes from the Chinese restaurant, fortune cookies, Ovaltine, deviled eggs, spicy mini hot dogs, and cookies and brownies with “Oh Fudge” on them. Her drink was called “Red Rider” and was a sweet drink with I’m not sure what kind of alcohol was in it but it was tasty. I loved the leg lamp and the sign saying “It’s a major award.” That was a clever and fun stop. We always have nice times at The Foxes Lair.

Our fourth stop was to go to Ed and Deb’s house to partake in their treats. There were raspberry tarts, chips, cheese and crackers, and specialty cookies. The specialty drink at their house was a fruity drink and also eggnog with pecan whiskey. Adding the pecan whiskey made the drink. Very tasty. We enjoyed ourselves there and enjoyed her porch.

Carol and Birkie’s home was our fifth stop and she had Buffalo Chicken Potato and Sweet and Spicy Chicken bites and cookies for dessert. She had margaritas, Jingle Juice which had whipped vodka, pink champagne, and Cherry 7-up, and lemon drop jello shooters. Their house was decorated up beautifully and was a very comfortable cozy place to be. There was a fire in the fireplace to cozy up to while the Nutcrackers stood guard in her hallway. We so enjoyed ourselves on her side porch with her fire pit blazing to keep every comfortable.

Deborah and Barry’s house was the last home on this tour and was a great stop. Deborah made a Puerto Rican Eggnog that was out of this world. It was the best eggnog I’ve ever drank before. She also made homemade cheese cakes that were incredible. She had a lovely Christmas tree on the table in the living room that was beautiful. Her home is just beautiful with artistic touches throughout. This was the perfect ending of a perfect day.

We had a wonderful time today and thank everyone who hosted a home to make this day so special. What a culinary delight it was and we left stuffed to the brim, content, and happy. We are so blessed to be a part of this group of friends that we enjoy so much. Thank you Brain for organizing this and being our time keeper at each house. You are the best. Hope you all can do this in your own neighborhoods. It is so much fun. Try it. It may become your new holiday tradition.

Till next time. Be blessed.
