The best way to see Kauai, Hawaii is by Helicopter

We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.”

Safari Helicopter Tours Kauai, Hawaii
Safari Helicopter Tours Kauai, Hawaii

Talk about being excited, this was a big deal for me. I had never been on a helicopter before so this was an exciting adventure for me. Joe had been on helicopters multiple times while being in the service but never one as small as this one. Since our cruise was taking us to four of the Hawaiian Islands, we researched to see which island we would like to see by helicopter. We chose Kauai since this island is so rural and because much of the island is uninhabited and hard to reach.

We ended up finding a trip with Safari Helicopter Tours and booked a flight with our friends Steve and Sandy since they wanted to to go on a helicopter tour also. It is always more fun going with friends and this was to be an amazing day. We got a ride to their office and got checked in. We enjoyed a fresh papaya from the tree just outside the office and some cold spring water. The people at this office were just lovely.

Our driver pulled up to pick us up and take us to the airfield. He was a hoot. He joked with us on the ride and as we were preparing for the flight. Steve hit it off with him right away and they joked back and forth. The driver made sure we had good pictures of all of us in front of the helicopter and then said farewell as we loaded up in the helicopter and met the pilot.

The pilot gave us each a headset so we could ask questions and he could tell us what we were seeing on the flight. He started the helicopter blades and shortly after we were up. What an amazing feeling of being lifted straight up off the ground. As we rose up, the views got better and better. Joe was sitting up in the front of the helicopter next to the pilot and I was in the very back.

We flew over beautiful green farmlands and the amazing Kauai coastline. We saw our cruise ship from the air and it looked like a toy ship from the air. Then we turned and headed to the rain forest area. How lush and green it looked. It was beautiful.

The pilot said we are coming up to the Waipo’o Falls so watch to your left. We saw this glorious falls which drops 800 feet into the base of Waimea Canyon. This falls is fed by the Koke’e Stream and looks lovely with the dense green forest surrounding it. The stream was not as heavy as it is during the fall but was still beautiful.

Then Waimea Canyon came into view. The colors of this canyon were spectacular with various red colors splatter with green. It was incredible and really did look a lot like the Grand Canyon but even more colorful. He flew both high and little lower for better views. What an amazing thing to see.

Then we flew over Kokee State Park and over the Na Pali coast. The beauty of these majestic mountains took my breath away and made me feel incredibly small. God’s masterpiece. Stunning. This was another of many highlights to see on this trip. We flew all along the coast and saw the hidden sandy beaches and waves crashing up against the rocks. The only way to get to many of these spots is by boat. It was wonderful seeing this area and we were thrilled we picked Kauai as the place to take a helicopter trip.

This island is very tropical with great sights to see everywhere we looked. We really enjoyed this helicopter trip and felt like we had plenty of time in the air. If you wanting a great helicopter tour on Kauai check them out: reservation@safarihelicopters.com.
