Traveling home from Albany, Georgia we wanted to find a fun place to stop for the night and
luckily found this wine tasting venue that was right up our alley.
This beautiful building with a bit of southern charm beaconed us to come in with the wrap around
porch adorned with tables, chairs, and rockers. It looked so very homey sitting amidst the pecan trees.
When
we walked in, we were greeted warmly with a smile by Tammy McClendon
who is the bar tender/wine connoisseur. She asked what she could
help us with and we told her we wanted to do a wine tasting.
“Great.” she said. She explained that for five dollars you can
do five tastings of your choice or ten for $10. Well for that
matter, as many as you like for dollar a tasting. So we decided to
sit a spell and enjoy our company and surroundings.
Tammy
pulled out her extensive list of wines and asked us both what kind of
wines we liked. I am a white wine Chardonnay type where Joe likes the bold dry red wines. We each choose five wines to our liking and
she brought them out. I choose a couple Chardonnay wines from
different vineyards in the area and then a couple of the fruit wines that Tammy raved about. They were all excellent.

Tammy
explained how there used to be a small vineyard here in 2010, when the previous owner made their own wine and went by the name of Cane River Winery
which is still part of the name that is on the sign on top of the building. They still
have a few grape vines outside the tasting room but no longer make
their own wine here but rather import wines from all over mainly focusing on Georgia wines. They had a great selection of wines, many
from the Georgia Winery and Horse Creek Winery. It is a great way to
get a taste for the different wines in the area and see what you
like. They also stock craft beers from Macon Beer Company and others
to drink if you are not a wine person like Joe and I. She also told
us they have very special drinks for children who come in with their
parents. How lovely is that? They all sounded wonderful as well.
Joe
enjoyed the red wine choices he picked and we each ended up having a
glass of wine of our choice. We enjoyed talking with Tammy and
another lady customer who joined us while we sat at the bar. Then I decided
to try the Peach slushy. Oh my, that was fantastic. If you ever
stop there you have to try it. It is very peachy delicious.

As
we sat there is this beautiful venue, we felt very at home and loved
the decor of this building. They had white lights strung across the
room that gave this tasting room a nice ambiance and charm. The
tables were very unique made with wooden barrels and framed with a
table. Along one wall you can choose from some of their BBQ sauces they make, meat rubs, homemade jelly's, hand made soaps,
wine glasses and t-shirts. There was a small upstairs area for
sitting and a small bar.
After
we lingered and chatted with Tammy, we got the honor of meeting Katie
Taylor, the new owner of this business. She is a lovely lady with
a great business sense and we wished we lived closer to frequent this
place. Katie told us she has been running this place for over a year
and just took ownership this July. Tammy and Katie were both very friendly and accommodating even with having a wedding rehearsal dinner
there later that night. Thank you both for your hospitality.
They
have entertainment here most Fridays and Saturdays, along with
trivia, cheese tastings, outdoor markets and many other events
throughout the year. Check their calendar and see what is coming
soon.
We
both bought a bottle of our favorite wine before we left to take to our hotel to enjoy later. We loved
this place and also loved that right next door is a great BBQ place
called Georgia Bob’s Barbecue Company. We had already ate our
dinner or else we would have stopped next door for a great dinner.
We will be back and we recommend if you are ever near Byron, stop by and give
it a try. We give this place a big thumbs up.

them out at: www.georgiabobsuncorked.com. Bye for now.
