“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he
seeks.”

It
was a warm but overcast day and Joe and I were looking to take a walk
before the rain set in for the day. But where? We happened to be in
Grovetown and saw the Grovetown Trails at Euchee Creek sign and
decided to go there and check it out. We parked and stopped to read
the sign with a map before we started our walk of the Euchee Creek
Trail. We saw there was a loop trail around the park as well as a
couple trails that fed into it from local neighborhoods.
The
trail starts in the park where it loops back to the parking lot after
circling a beautiful park with an open area and another area that has
some tree cover. Many people were jogging and out playing with
their dogs in the open field. On one end of the loop near the
parking lot was a volley ball court which I’m sure that gets used a
lot in the nice weather. There are also picnic tables scattered
around making it a great place to bring a lunch and sit a spell. A
restroom sits up near the parking lot.
We
headed off on one of the trails and soon came to a nice size pond.
It was so beautiful and peaceful looking at the serene pond. We saw
many turtles and fish swimming in the pond and the birds were singing
happily and they flew from tree to tree that day. During the
springtime, there are lots of wildflowers to delight your eyes.
The
trail is paved and there are some sections that are boardwalk. The
boardwalk guides you over the scenic marshes and the creek and is a
stunning section of the trail. There are signs identifying
different trees along the path. This trail connects to the
Canterbury Farms neighborhood. How wonderful it must be to be able
to just walk out your door and get on a beautiful trail like this.
Many people were walking with their dogs and the only restriction is
they must be on a leash.
A
project was started in June 2019 where they are going to connect this
trail to a major trail system. The first stage will attach this
trail to Patriots Park in town and eventually the trail system will
connect all the way to the Greenway in North Augusta. That will
make a 90 mile trail system for hiking and biking in Columbia and
Richmond County. What a great project and we are anxiously waiting
for it to happen.
We
enjoyed this trail and managed to get in our walk just before the
rain came. This is a lovely park to visit and a great way to get
out and get some exercise. It is even beautiful in the winter. We will come back to hike and bring our
dog the next time.
Till
next time. Bye for now.
