minds.”

Superbowl
parties have been an annual tradition amongst our friends here in Old
Towne, Augusta, Georgia for a good many years. Just so you know,
we are not just talking any typical party. No, not when our friends
are planning it. This grand event is looked forward to all year
and enjoyed by our large group of friends. The average number of
people who attend a Superbowl party in the US is 17. But that
statistic was not referring to our group. This year, I would not
doubt there were over a hundred people who attended the festivities.
People streamed in from all over to be able to come to this
celebration with coolers in hand and sides to share. They sure
know how to have a party here in Olde Town, Augusta, Georgia.
Planning
for this party starts way ahead of time with drawing who will host
the party for the following year. A few friends rotate turns at
their homes in beautiful Olde Town. This years Superbowl Event was
held at the Purple Palace, owned by our great friends, Deborah and
Barry. Deborah and Barry are a great fun loving couple that know
how to throw a party and have fun.
This
party began at 3 pm starting with hors d’oeuvres from cracker and
cheese, dips and chips, fresh fruits, to freshly shucked oysters.
The neighborhoods firetruck was center stage and was a willing
participant at the event holding the built in keg of beer and a
television attached to the back.
Dinner
was served at five, after they cooked the meat which was quite an
array of meats including chicken cooked many ways, roast pork, and
beef. Everyone who came to the party was asked to bring an
appetizer if they were getting there from 3 to 5 pm, or a side if
arriving after 5 to go with dinner. They had set up large canapes
divinely lit up white rope lights and set up tables beneath for all
the food. There were so many amazing dishes to choose from and
everything was beyond fabulous. The food table was 32 feet long and
by the beginning of the big game, there was no space to add even one
more dish. Oh my, the food ranged rice and beans, macaroni and
cheese, dips and chips, casseroles, potato salads, shrimp salad, to
the most fabulous desserts. What an incredible smorgasbord of food
to lay your eyes on.

There
were large televisions set up in various places at their home. There
were three in the yard, and two in the house. Two 65” televisions
were hung up on their pavilion and as everyone arrived at the party,
they strategically placed their chairs around them to watch the game.
There were three fire pits set up and three propane heaters
putting out good heat to keep everyone warm. The temperature stayed
pretty nice only getting down to the low fifties during the evening.
Yes, it was a perfect night to sit outside and watch the game with
the stars shining down on us.
For
some who didn’t want to watch the whole game, Deborah and Barry had
set up the game, “Across the Board.” It is a horse racing game
that was as fun to watch as it is to play it. Everyone was cheering
and really getting into the game. While playing that game, they
could still watch the Superbowl as there also was a television set in
that room.
This
years Superbowl was between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City
Chiefs and was a very exciting game, mainly in the last quarter.
Kansas City trailed the 49ers but ended up having a big comeback in
the fourth quarter and won the game the game 31 – 20. It was fun
watching all the wonderful commercials and the game together,
shouting and laughing out loud. Good times.
The
best part of this party was meeting new friends and seeing our old
friends, some we hadn’t seen in a long time, and enjoying their
company. We are so blessed with so many great friends. I can not
thank our friends enough for having these great events. We are so
happy we found our friends in Olde Town. This was just one of the
many great times we have with our “gang.” Thanks to all who
made this party a touchdown. Great job. Till next time. Bye
for now.
