“A poet could write volumes about diners, because they’re so
beautiful. They’re brightly lit, with chromes and booths and
Naugahyde and great waitresses.”
David

Step
back in time with this amazing retro diner that was built in the
1960’s right in downtown North Augusta, South Carolina. What an
amazing find. It looks just like it would have when it was first
opened with the turquoise colored paint, parking spots under the
awning, and the Sno-Cap Restaurant sign up front.
This
restaurant is a drive in restaurant where they will bring food to
your car, or you can use the drive through, or come inside for a
bite. We had the grands with us so we went inside to eat. When we
walked in, we fell in love with this place. The flooring was black
and white checkerboard and each of the booths had an old fashioned
table with red and white benches. Old fashioned bar stools surrounded the lunch counter ready for new customers to come in and sit for a great meal. It was very quaint and colorful. Even though it was small they could still fit quite a few people inside. There are
also picnic tables if you chose to eat outside on a warmer day.

Our
waitress was great and made us and the children feel right at home.
We ordered our drinks and she brought out the menu’s. Once again,
I’m in love. The old fashioned looking menus were great and with
so many choices and reminded me of when I was a child going to the
local diner in my hometown. They had everything on the menu from
chicken, fish, salads, their specialty cheeseburgers, made from
Lanier Meats, and hot dogs served many ways.

The
|Sno Cap Restaurant first opened a store in 1962 on Richland Avenue
in Aiken and then opened a second restaurant in North Augusta in
1964. The Aiken restaurant is now closed but this one is doing
great. It is now owned by Dr. Brooke Usry and her husband, Havird
Usry. Havird grew up in the restaurant industry as his father and
grandfather were in the business. Havird himself was a chef and owner
of Fatman’s Cafe and Catering in Augusta.
God Bless America and the smiley fries. |
The
Sno Cap is still known for their frosted mugs of Root beer, Root beer
floats, and milkshakes. They have wonderful shoe string french
fries and for the kids they have smiley fries. The kids loved those
and giggled as they ate the happy faces. Our food was as great as we
expected and we had a great visit. I’m glad we found this gem. We loved the added touch of putting small American Flags on top of our burgers.
They
do have specials like every Monday night from 5 pm to 9 pm, kids eat
free. Also starting in March, they will start having antique car
cruise in’s so you can see beautiful antique cars while eating.
Love it.
Check
them out: www.snocapdrivein.com.
They are located at 618 West Avenue, North Augusta, South Carolina
and their phone is 803-279-4004. We highly recommend this fun
restaurant and we will be back.
Till
next time. Bye for now.
