“I don’t think there’s anything on this planet that more
trumpets life that the sunflower. For me that because of the reason
behind its name. Not because it looks like the sun but because it
follows the sun. During the course of the day, the head tracks the
journey of the sun across the sky. A satellite dish for sunshine.
Wherever light is, no matter how weak, these flowers will find it.
And that’s such an admirable thing. And such a lesson in life.”

Today
we adventure in the North Georgia Mountains. It is a beautiful day
with blue skies and sunny and still in the 90’s in Augusta so time
for cooler air. Off we go towards Dawsonville, Georgia to see a few
sites we’ve been wanting to see. This is located about 160 miles
from Augusta, Georgia. Let me tell you all about Fausetts Farms
Sunflowers today.
Driving
this way, we saw some beautiful countryside, with rolling hills, nice
estates, barns, small towns, and many country stores. It was a
lovely drive and took us about three hours to get there. When we
drove into Fausett Farms from the main road, I told Joe it looks a
lot smaller than I imagined. Well, I must say I was so wrong. It
is huge. They say it has thirty acres but it seems like so much
more. I must also say that it was only about five degrees cooler
here than Augusta. Still felt better than usual for us.
The
sunflowers are only in bloom for about three weeks and this year it
opened on September 22nd. So if you are reading this and
want to go this year, get on it and go now. It is worth it. This
farm used to be a poultry farm until 2011 but they decided to change
it up to sunflowers and started planting them three years ago. The
people who run this beautiful farm are very nice and answer any
questions you want to ask. We paid the ten dollars for a carload to
park and see the amazing field of sunflowers.
At
the end of the field, we crossed over a small stream on a nice wooden
bridge. Then we walked into the field that was prime and so
beautiful. The sunflowers seemed to be smiling at us. I couldn’t
take enough pictures as everywhere we walked we saw more and more
beautiful sunflowers. Just amazing.
Toward
the end of the field closest the store, there was a beautiful red
tractor that looked picture perfect with the yellow sunflowers behind
it. Loads of people were lining up to get there picture taken there
and on a wagon they had all decorated up for fall. They offer a
professional photographer to take pictures while you are there for
$35. The store sold local honeys, T-shirts, sunflowers to put in
vases and birdseed for $1 each. They also sell barbecue sandwiches.
Wonderful.
This
farm has 900,000 flowers on 30 plus acres. They offer mule drawn
wagon rides or you can bring your own horse and pay only $10 a horse
and be able to ride their many trails. They have miles and miles of
trails for the horses and you to explore.
As
we were heading back to our car, we noticed a couple of horse
trailers with horses grazing in the field. Oh, they will have a
nice day cruising around on the trails. They even have a pen set
up to put the horses in while the owners can walk in the sunflower
fields. One of the horses, looked up and saw us and broke free and
came right towards us. I stepped on the lead when the horse got near
us and stop her. She was a beauty. I think she was attracted to
Joe. I loved on her for a few before bidding them farewell and left.
We
highly recommend this place. You can get amazing pictures of God’s
beauty. Thank you to the Fausett family for sharing this beautiful
farm. Check them out at: https://fausettfarmssunflowers.com.
