“Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one
of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the
greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and
appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing.”
Ernest
Hemingway
Fall
has arrived after a brutally hot summer. Time to head to the
Appalachian mountains. Our daughter, is great about finding houses
to rent in them mountains and found this gem for us for the weekend.
The requirement was to have enough room for three couples, her
seventeen year old daughter, and six foster children. She found the
perfect lodge and couldn’t have been a more beautiful setting.
Joe
and I arrived first and checked in at the tasting room at Odom
Springs Vineyard and met Jennifer Odom, who is such a lovely lady.
She showed us around and gave us a little history of the land here
that has been owned by her family for over a century. She states it
was opened in 2013. She gave us the keys to the lodge and told us to
make ourselves comfortable and let her know if we needed anything.
We walked over and saw the place and just loved it. What an amazing
place to stay with gorgeous views.
After
we got settled in and decided to head to the tasting room to taste
their wines. We so enjoyed Jennifer’s company and her friends that
came in to help. They were great and we ordered a glass of wine each
and sat out on the deck overlooking the vineyard. This is what life
is about. Our friends, showed up and joined us. There is no
better way to spend the day, relaxing with great wine and great
friends.
When
our daughter, husband, and family showed up and we went to the lodge
and enjoyed the patio on this beautiful crisp fall day with our
family and great friends. This lodge was built in 1975 and was the
childhood home of the owner. This log cabin Lodge can accommodate
12 guests and has a fully stocked kitchen, living space, and bedroom
on this floor. There is also three bedrooms upstairs and a full
basement with a pull out that is finished. This is a great place to
stay and we so loved the accommodations. It is also in a nice local,
close to Blairsville and other attractions.
We
enjoyed a nice walk around the vineyard in the morning and the kids
enjoyed just running around. They had races between the rows of
grapes and played hide in seek. Later we went back to the tasting
room so our daughter and her husband could try. The names of the
wines were clever. There was: Naughty, They Lord, Sharptop Seyval,
Just Loaferin’, ReDowg Red, Homemade Sin, and Earls Reserve. My
favorite was They Lord and Joe’s was Homemade Sin.
Odom
Farm is the largest of their vineyards because of the fertile land
that gets fun sun all day. It is located halfway up Sharptop
Mountain and situated along the Odom Creek. They grow French-
American hybrids at Odom Farm such as Chambourcin and Vidal Blanc.
The views are beautiful. This is a great venue for a wedding or just
taking pictures. Yes, and we took a lot of pictures.
This
beautiful family owned land has been in the Odom family for over a
century. The family owns another 60 acres where more grape vines are
grown. They grow Seyval Blanc and Norton grapes as well, which
produce a great flavorful wine.
The
hours for the tasting room are Thursday – Saturday 11-6 and Sunday
1-5. We had a wonderful weekend here. What dreams are made of. If
you want to know more about this winery, check them out at:
odomspringsvineyard.com.
We
highly recommend this vineyard as it is casual, comfortable, and the
owners are just lovely. If you are in the area, stop by and relax,
have a glass of wine, and enjoy. Cheers!
