CreekFire Clubhouse/office |
It
is parents weekend at Georgia Southern and it is time to visit with
our granddaughter, Kaley who is attending the Armstrong Campus of
Georgia Southern in Savannah and see how she is doing. She is a
freshman and has only been away a month but we already miss her
terribly. Jeannine wanted to take the kids camping close to Kaley
so we loaded up our van with our large yurt (tent) and camping
equipment and headed to the campground in Savannah that she had
booked. It sounded like a lovely place and we were anxious to get
there to see it. We wanted to arrive before she did so we could get
the tent set up for her and the children.
|
Inside the Clubhouse/office |
We
saw the sign for CreekFire we turned into the campground entrance and
were struck by how beautiful the corridor was leading into the
campground. We drove between two white fences down to the
Clubhouse/office to register. What an impressive entrance. The
office/clubhouse looked fancy and when I went opened the door and
stepped inside, it surely was elegant. There were beautiful fire
places on either side of the large and airy room with comfortable
seating. The room was just stunning.
|
Sitting area near the pool |
The
registration desk was located in the middle of the room. There us a
small store in this building and they sell a few camping items along
with as ice and firewood. Looking beyond the desk through the wall
of windows, you could see the pool with a few people in there having
fun.
|
On the side of the Clubhouse - plenty of seating everywhere |
I
was warmly greeted by the friendly office personnel who explained all
I needed to know about the amenities and what was happening here this
weekend. Everyone working there was just lovely and very helpful.
They said they would meet me in the front of the building and they
would send someone to escort us to our camp site.

Our campsite for the weekend |
|
The yurt/Tent |
They
had a staff member come out and drive her golf cart through the 24
hour secured gate to our tent site. From what I could tell, there
is only two sites for camping so far and they are both on docks
overlooking the lake. They are beautiful sites and if you are lucky
enough to get one, you will really enjoy it as the view. It is
spectacular.
|
RV park |
Following
behind our escort, we passed all the RV sites and they seemed to be a
good many. There are 103 to be exact in this 105 acre family owned
RV park that was built by local Savannah residents a couple of years
ago. They have many pull through RV sites that are easily
accessible with full hookups. As we headed to the back of the
park, we saw the pristine 35 acre lake and two white fenced decks
that were built over the water. That was the two campsites and ours
was closest to the woods.

Our camper. |
Our
escort, left and we got busy unloading the van. We got out the yurt
and put it up on the deck which was not an easy task as we had tent
pegs and nowhere to place them on the deck. Joe, my McGyver,
figured out how to make it work. (If you are not familiar with
McGyver – it was an old television show with a man named McGyver
who could fix all things with whatever he had on or near him).
Luckily we had time to get it up before Jeannine and the kids arrived
so they could unload their things right into the tent. After we
finished we looked out over the water and saw a small alligator
swimming in the lake.
The
wind was blowing which made it bearable and quite nice here on the
lake even though it was a very hot day in late September. We got
everything set up, which was easy for us as we just needed to make
our bed for the night in the van. When Jeannine arrived, on the
other hand, she had to set up sleeping arrangements for eight
children and herself. It was comfortable for them in our yurt if
that gives you any idea how large it was.

Cabana you can rent |
Later
that day after Kaley arrived, we enjoyed our hamburgers and hot dogs
and headed to the pool. The pool was beautiful. What a gorgeous
set up. The pool was designed perfectly for easy in and out for
everyone and they even have a lift to give pool access to handicapped
people. The pool was a good size and not crowded at all. The
temperature of the water felt great and we so enjoyed it. There was
a nice size hot tub also and a kiddie pool section with a slide and
fish fountain. The kids had a great time enjoying the water.

|
Grills for your use next to pool |
|
Firepit |
Next
to the pool they have an area that will be a bar and grill and they
have entertainment at least one night over the weekend. Also right
next to the pool is a covered pavilion area with two TV's to watch, a
pool table, ping pong table, and tables to eat at. Beyond that is a
nice size fire pit to be enjoyed out under the stars.

Tennis and Basketball courts |
|
Lawn Chess |
|
Laundry facility |
|
Bocce ball courts |
They
have a tennis and basketball courts, a large lawn chess set, two
bocce ball courts, billiards, corn hole, darts, and a lovely
playground for the kids. Also in the pavilion is a nice laundry
facility and bathrooms with showers. In the future, they plan to
build a lazy river in the park which it looked like it was being
worked on now.
They
have fire rings at the campsite so we had a fire both nights we were
there. We roasted some S’mores and all were happy. It was nice
but the two campsites and fire pits are close together and it would
work out great if you are with the other tent camper.
Otherwise it
may be a little snug.

Lake Rental Cabins |
|
Restrooms with showers |
There
are seven lake rental cabins that are available and I personally went
into one of them and they are very nice. They accommodate 4 to 6
guests. They are small but are comfortable. The views out their
front door is of the lake and is very nice and they have porches to
sit and enjoy the view. It is a quite area.
|
Hiking trail |
|
Views from hiking trail |
Right
near where we camped is the beginning of a mile walk that takes you
around the lake. It was well manicured and tree covered on most of
the trail. We saw an abundance of brightly colored butterflies and
wildflowers.
|
Soon to be restaurant on the lake |
They
are still working on the restaurant that is located right on the lake
and it will be wonderful. It will be large and they have a large
deck with tables to sit at to enjoy the view. The inside looks large
as well. That will be very nice when it opens to make camping even
easier.

Proposal |
|
She said yes. |
On
Saturday, we went back to the pool and saw a helicopter flying low
over the clubhouse. I went in to talk to the ladies in the office
and they told me there was going to be a proposal. The Proposer
told his girlfriend he was taking her to Jacksonville by helicopter.
The helicopter left and about a ½ hour later returned after friends
and family laid a sign out asking if she would marry him. Then the
friends all hid in the event tent across the street. When the
helicopter landed, the man got on one knee and proposed, she hugged
him and held on tight, so I figured it was, yes. Then all their
friends came out from the tent and they had an engagement party right
then. So sweet and I’m glad I got to witness it.
Congratulations to the lucky couple.
Another plus for CreekFire is you can rent golf carts here and many
people did to get back and forth to the pool and just to drive their
children around. They also rent bicycles, Jon boats, kayaks,
canoes, and cabanas at the pool. Another nice service they offier
is there is a shuttle service to take you to downtown Savannah for a
fee.

Josephine Johnson |
On
Saturday afternoon, they had a fall craft hour for the children to
color wooden pumpkins and a leaf craft. They kids were really
excited about that and enjoyed it. They had a good turn out and all
the tables were filled with children giggling with delight. That
night, they had live music with Josephine Johnson who played guitar
and ukulele and sang from 7 to 10. That was nice as you could hear
her singing while swimming in the pool. They pool stayed open till
10 that night also and it was fun swimming under the stars with the
children.
We
highly recommend this place for Rvers and campers. My only
recommendation is to bring water and a wash basin for doing dishes
for tent campers as there is no water or cleaning sinks available.
Otherwise, it was perfect. This is a very well run facility and very
convenient to downtown Savannah. We give them a big thumbs up.
Check them out at www:Creekfirerx.com. We will return. Good bye for
now.
