“Smell the sea, and feel the sky, let your soul and spirits
fly.”

Today
is our last day in the Savannah area before heading back home to
Augusta. What a beautiful, clear, and unusually hot day it ended up
being at the end of September making it a great day to get wet. The
sky was crystal blue with not a cloud anywhere is sight and a nice
warm breeze gently blowing. Just the most perfect beach day so our
destination for the day was Tybee Island, Georgia.
Tybee
Island is a barrier island that includes a small town 18 miles east
of Savannah. The towns population is only 3,127 and has the
distinction of being the eastern most point in Georgia. We pile out
of our vehicles and walk up the ramp, over the sand dunes, and onto
Tybee’s wide sandy beach. We chose to be at South Beach to we
could be near the pier, pavilion, and bathrooms. It is a little more crowded on that area of the beach but worth it for all the extra conveniences.
Once
on the beach, the children instantly ran for the water and had to be
called back to get on sunscreen. We walked down to the water and
did the toe test for water temperature and it was just perfect. It
wasn’t hot but just cool enough to feel refreshing and the ocean
today looked very clear, blue, and clean. The waves even seemed to
co-operate with us since they were perfect for the little ones.
They were just the right size to not knock them over. There were
lots of little fish jumping and swimming near us and it was fun to
watch the schools of fish disrupting the water.
Another
benefit of being close to the pier was that we could get nice cold
drinks there and the children could get ice cream. How perfect. Cheers.
We
very much enjoyed our time at the beach building sand castles, flying
kites, and swimming in the surf. The sea gulls soared overhead
making that familiar sound that lets us know we are at the beach.
This was a great relaxing way to end our weekend down in Savannah.
Life doesn’t get much better than this.
It
was time to pack up and head to a restaurant as we were all getting
hungry and it was getting near time to head home. We decided to go
to Fannie’s On The Beach a restaurant that Kaley’s boyfriend,
Jackson recommended since his grandmother had a place in Tybee nearby for
years and he said the food was great.
It
is located on Strand Avenue and is a fun eclectic restaurant with a
great staff. When we walked in with 8 children, two young adults,
and three adults, they didn’t even flinch. God love them. That
says something right there. They were nothing but cordial and bent
over backwards to make our visit with them perfect.
Joe
and I shared our meals. I got the fried shrimp and Joe got fried
oysters. The portions were a good size and the food was wonderful.
Kaley and Jackson got personal pizza’s and said they were
awesome. We enjoyed a lovely meal before heading back home. That weekend went way to fast.
This
restaurant celebrated twenty seven years this year and has been serving lunch and
dinner seven days a week. They opened in 1992 and are still going
strong. On weekends, they have live music upstairs which they had
the day we were there but we chose to sit downstairs with the
children so we could all sit together.
Another
great weekend has past. Tybee Island is a great place to enjoy the beach and great food. Try it and see. You will won’t be disappointed.
Till next time. Bye for now.
