Steed’s Dairy Farm and Corn Maize, Grovetown, Georgia

I’m so glad I live in a world where there are corn mazes.”
L. M. Montgomery

Steed’s Corn Maze is now open. That is when you know fall has arrived. We go with our daughter and grandchildren every year and they are beyond excited about getting to come here this evening. As soon as we entered the park, the children when running. They literally ran for the entire time we were there which was fun to watch their excitement.

This is a child’s paradise with so much to do. The first thing you notice is the huge slide for the bigger or braver kids. We loved watching the children running up the stairs and zooming down just to do it again and again. Next to the slide they had a huge pile of sand with sand toys for the children to play with. Who would have thought that just that could keep them busy for hours. Something so simple but so entertaining for the little ones.

They also had a corn kernel sand box and toys for the kids to dig in and enjoy. Another idea they had was making a balancing swing thing that the kids could try to walk across or sit and swing back and forth. Then there was the water pump that the kids could pump water and watch it go through a maze. They also offer face painting for all. The kids always love having their face painted.

The biggest attraction for our grands were jumping on the huge Jumping pillow. The kids were flying through the air. What an amazing thing to watch. They would jump and practically reach the sky they were able to jump so high. Some children just enjoyed sitting on it and bouncing up and down when the other children jumped. There was an incredible amount of laughter going on there. It made us smile just watching them.

For the little ones, there was a tiny house with kitchen that was fully stocked with fake food, utensils, kitchen fun items, and even aprons. What fun was to be had for our young granddaughter. Their was also a wooden train for the children to climb, pretend to drive, and a small slide for them to slide down at the end of the train. They also have swings back near the pasture to sail high on.

We walked past the Corn hole sets as we went up to the petting zoo that is located in a lovely old barn at one end of the farm. The kids loved all the animals. They had a bunny, a huge pig, turkeys, goats, pony’s, horses, cow, chickens, an incredible donkey with quite the personality. He seemed to enjoying himself as he was talking to everyone.

They have a pumpkin patch next to the barn for the children to pick out a special pumpkin. Everything is set up so beautifully here at the farm and is kept so pristine. We loved the fall decorations scattered throughout the farm.

They also have fire pits where you can roast your S’mores and a nice stage area and seating for events. Over near the hay ride they have a zip line for kids. There is so much to do that when we were there we ran out of time to do everything. If you have worked up an appetite, there is a concession stand to grab a bite to eat.

The main attraction is the five acre corn maze and it is amazing. The corn is so tall and thick that it is just a blast walking through it and trying to find your way out. You could hear the kids laughing and trying to find the path around the maize. This is a place to give your child a great time.

The Steed’s have owned this property since 1934 and it has been in the family every since. Initially they tried to grow cotton here but the price of cotton wouldn’t support the farm during that time. Then they tried their hand at making it a Dairy farm when John Steed Jr bought two Holstein cows named Cora and Alice. They were the first Holstein cows in the county. They did that for a while as well as hauling milk to the processing plant. After John passed away in 2009, the family researched how they could make a living and stay on the family property. Jim Steed did some research about corn mazes and as of 2010, a new corn maze has been cut every year for all to enjoy.

What a blessing having this farm so close to everything but when you are there, you feel as if you are way out in the country. The beauty of the land is amazing and being there as the sun exits the sky is wonderful experience. We had a wonderful time at Steed’s and hope you can make it out there. They do offer military discounts and special events. It will be open from September 28 to November 10 this year. Check them out at: https://www.steedsdairy.com.
