“Do
not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no
path and leave a trail.”
Ralph

Today
Joe and I decided to go to this park since we heard it is so pretty.
We drove to the park, which is about 10 south west of Pensacola to
Big Lagoon State Park. This is a park that has 704 beautiful acres
of tidal marshes and pine flats on an area that separates the
mainland and the Gulf of Mexico. This land was first acquired in
1977.
This
park has a 150 person amphitheater that can be rented, as well as it
has a beautiful camping area, lovely picnic areas, kayaking,
beaching and swimming, boating, and crabbing are all available at
the park. There are five miles of hiking trails that are gorgeous
with wooden boardwalks over the marshes and a great three story
observation tower that over looks The Intracoastal Waterway and
Perdido Key. We so loved walking on the boardwalks to see the views
of the waterway. What an amazing view. The little fiddler crabs ran
and hid in the sand as we approached. We saw lots of sea birds and
enjoyed the magical music nature played for us as we strolled down
the paths.
There
is even a 2.5 mile bike ride along the park road and excellent bird
watching for all you birding enthusiast. The migratory shore birds
come here so you can see lots of species. The gopher tortoises
makes their home here as well. There are three pavilions you can
rent for special events. The largest seats 250 people and the other
two pavilions seat 75 people.
