South Bound Smokehouse, Augusta, Georgia

Food is for eating, and good food is to be enjoyed… I think food is, actually, very beautiful in itself.”
Delia Smith

Joe and I met our daughter, Jeannine, her husband, Darren, and their foster baby at South Bound Smokehouse on Central Avenue in Augusta, Georgia. They had been before and raved about their food so we were game to give it a try.   As we were walking to the front door, I noticed they planted green shrubs that make the outside patio private. Nice touch. When we walked in the door, I noticed the décor was nicely done with lots of pictures and posters of musicians throughout. There was a lot of televisions with different sports on them to watch.

We sat at a low table so our little one could be close to us. Most of the tables were high tops. We sat down and our waitress comes to the table and asks Jeannine, “Is your baby adopted?” Jeannine said he was a foster baby. Our waitress, Taylor comes back with, I was a foster child and was adopted by my foster mom along with 6 other children. She told Jeannine and Darren how much she appreciated them doing what they are for the baby. Jeannine and Darren explained they have his brother also and are adopting three girls that are in their care now. She was thrilled with this and showed it. “You are doing such a wonderful thing. Thank you so much. I do not know where I would be without the love and care my foster mom gave me.”

We ordered our meal and every time she came back we heard more of her story.  Taylor told us she is still close to her siblings which made us all happy.   She had a fascinating  story and was just a lovely lady. Our appetizers came first and our chicken wings were wonderful. Just perfectly smoked. Jeannine fried pickles. They were fantastic also.

When our meal came out we were not disappointed.  It was delicious. I ordered the chicken leg platter that was smoked to perfection and was nice and juicy. The Cajun slaw was great and something different for a nice treat. Joe ordered the shrimp and grits.   He said it was excellent and he would order that again.  Darren ordered a salad which  was a nice size.   Jeannine ordered a salad also but topped with pulled pork.   We were all very satisfied with our meals and will be back.

Taylor was not only a nice person to talk to but also a great waitress. She was a total joy and we were blessed having her wait on our table.

Today, August 24, 2019, Joe and I decided to head back to this fine restaurant since we loved it the last time we were there and once again we were happy we stopped there.   We got there right as it opened and all the wait staff was as friendly as could be.   We were seated and shortly afterwards, and the waitress came and put in our drink order followed by the manager came over to greet us.   That was a nice touch and he was a friendly guy.

Our waitress took our order and the food came out shortly afterwards.   Joe ordered ribs and I ordered their chicken wings.   Both were amazing.   They know what they are doing here.  There are TV's everywhere with a different sport on each set.  One set had a Eagles football game on it, another drag car racing, and the third on in our room had a show called Dog Day which showed where ordinary dogs were preforming agility skills.  It was hilarious and great entertainment.   We were a hundred percent satisfied with our food and dining experience.

When we got up to leave, we headed to the back of this restaurant and found another small bar back there as well as a game room with a foosball table and a pool table.   This place was bigger than we thought and had even more to offer.

If you want a great meal, this is the place to come. They also have local bands that play on the weekends. Southboundsmokehouse.com.
