“If
you leave hungry, it's not my fault”
Chef
Bob Brawner's motto
Today
is the last Friday before school starts so we wanted Jeannine, Kaley,
and children to go to Edgefield with us and have lunch at Chef Bob's.
We had told Jeannine about how nice Bob is and wanted them to meet
him and taste his fabulous food. When we got there it was quiet and
Bob was in the back cooking. We paid for our meals and helped
ourselves to the lovely food Bob had prepared. Today's menu was fried
chicken, fried catfish, hush puppies, greens, green beans, rice,
gravy, and sweet potatoes. There was also corn muffins, rolls,
salad, vegetable beef soup, and desserts. It was such a nice buffet
and the food was superb. I don't know how he can always make the
fried chicken so moist. Both the catfish and the chicken is the best
I've ever had. He does such a wonderful job. Bob does all the
cooking and you can tell he puts his love into everything he cooks.
All the desserts are homemade
and many are family recipes. He has a different menu for every day.
We sat
down with our food and Bob came out and sat with us and talked. I
was so glad he had time to do that and have time to meet our family.
Bob will periodically go from table to table with fresh food that he
has just cooked and offer his guest more food. You can tell he
loves his job. After we finished our meal, Bob got up and went over
to his piano. He sat down and played beautiful music. What a
special treat. We didn't know how wonderfully he cold play the
piano. What a nice surprise. The music filled the restaurant.
After he finished playing, Kaley went over to the piano with her two
sisters, one on either side, and played some music for us as well.
It was magical. I loved hearing that piano being played by two
great musicians. Thank you Bob and Kaley for sharing your talents
with us.
The
restaurant is not fancy but is clean and has that comfortable feel to
it as if you went to a friends house to eat. There are table clothes
on all the tables and on occasion there may be flowers on the tables.
There is plenty of seating. Bob cooks lunch seven days a week and
dinner on Friday and Saturdays. On Friday nights, he has a seafood
buffet that is all you can eat with crab legs. We haven't made it
there to eat yet on a Friday night but we will. If his food is as
good on Friday night as it has been on Friday lunchtime, it will be
fabulous. Bob had moved away for awhile but wanted to come back home and start his own restaurant. We are so glad he did. He has been open 12 years and is an expert chef.
Edgefield is a lovely town to visit and his restaurant is a must when
you are there. He is located just off the square at 303 Main
Street, Edgefield, SC. If you go tell him Heather and Joe say hi
and wish him well.
